Jay Wilford descends from a family rich in artistic talent, most notably his grandmother Hanny Van der Velde, whose paintings filled the home he grew up in. Surrounded by her work and that of his mother, also a gifted artist, Jay’s connection to painting began early and left a lifelong impression. Largely self-taught, he forged his own path through study, observation, and persistence, often spending hours in museums absorbing the techniques of Sargent, Vermeer, the Impressionists, and Canada’s Group of Seven.
